Layer Cakes
Layer Cakes are collections of 10" x 10" squares of fabric made by Moda Fabrics. They are similar to a charm pack but a larger size. Layer Cakes are available by collection and typically include 42 pieces of fabric (though the number may vary). If you are making a quilt, you can use either the entire 10" x 10" fabric piece as part of your quilt and/or you can cut it in various different shapes and sizes.
Here are a couple of options to cut a layer cake.
• Cut the 10" x 10" fabric square into quarters and it will provide you with 4 finished fabric squares each measuring 4.5" x 4.5".
• Cut the 10" x 10" fabric square into quarters as above. Now cut the 4.5" x 4.5" finished squares in quarters again and you will end up with 8 finished squares each measuring 2" x 2".
• Cut the 10" x 10" fabric square twice diagonally to create 4 quarter square finished triangles measuring 8.5".
• Cut the 10" x 10" fabric square into quarters. Now cut the quarters once diagonally and you will end up with 8 finished half square triangles each measuring 4".
